Journal Entry #3: Deep Focus on Citizen Kane

Citizen Kane is a 1941 American and Narrative Film directed by Orson Welles. The film is about the biography and legacy of Charles Foster Kane, a non-fiction personality based from American media barons William Randolph Hearst and Joseph Pulitzer, Chicago business tycoons Samuel Insull and Harold McCormick, and the screenwriter’s life. The film won an Academy Award for Best Writing (Original Screenplay).
The contribution of Citizen Kane to Cinematography is the use of a technique called Deep Focus. Deep Focus refers to having everything on the frame that includes the internal and external background with the whole characters.
